This week’s Strictly
Balvinder & Julian
I liked the choreography and the music. Balvinder danced that beautifully, lovely footwork and she told the story with grace. She needs to stretch up from her core more to create a better frame. Those that were in class this week will know what I was saying about Julian. This is a great dance to show what I was talking about.
Amber & Nikita
Choreography not my cup of tea but that not taking anything away from it. It was clever and full of paso steps. The timing and rhythm was brilliant full of passion and drama. A bit more structured sway in the body would have been nice, but her arm and handology was lovely.
Alex & Johannes
Clever choreography using open positions at the beginning and coming apart at end of the standing spin as well as using open steps rather than closing. That is not taking anything away from Alex’s dancing it was beautiful. Her footwork was lovely. Frame beautiful and timing and storytelling was so magical. I would have liked Johannes to have used more closed hold and more Waltz rather than passing steps to show the rise and fall better.
Vicki & Kai
Her weight was too far back for Jive which made it heavy in the legs sadly. She got the speed in the free leg but not the bounce in the standing that this dance style needs.
I liked the music and choreography especially the drunken sailors and COP. In the most part she was in time with the music there was just a few places she lost it.
Karen & Carlos
That was not her best dance, though she did hold the frame well. He arm moved nicely in free hold and her foot work was good. I like her dancing but there was no light and shade in the dance. Saying that it was not her fault it was the timing used in the choreography.
George and Alexa
Wow what a beautiful Rumba, the story telling was fantastic. George used his body and arms exquisitely. The choreography was hard and though it went out of sync in places I don’t think that took anything away from the performance. I did not agree with Craig about it not being a Rumba, I saw lots of Rumba choreography and I thought he moved his hip very well for someone who had never danced before.
Lewis & Katya
A fast Tango but I loved the choreography lots of recognisable steps.
Lewis held his posture well but I felt his chin needed to be lifted which would allow him to bring his left arm into the correct position giving Katya more space to dance. His footwork was spot on, I know this because it was level throughout (no rise and fall). Loved it.
La Voix & Aljaz
A good theatre number and she preformed it well.
Like Shirley I loved it. I don’t think it was a technical difficulty as the other dancer tonight. Some of the foot positions and footwork was off in places but her timing was great.
