Balance

Balance is the correct distribution of the body’s weight over one or both feet, whether stationary or in motion. Good balance provides stability, control and freedom of movement, and is essential for all styles of dance.

Poise

Deportment

Deportment is the manner in which a dancer carries themselves. It reflects confidence, elegance and good posture. Correct deportment begins with sound balance and poise and is demonstrated through graceful movement, body carriage and presentation, both individually and with a partner.
