Dubwath Silver Meadow
Just off the A66 opposite the north end of Bassenthwaite Lake is Dubwath Silver Meadow Nature reserve. The perfect place for a wellbeing walk.
Parking on the road at the side of the entrance which was quite buzy and we got the last space at 11.30am, we found that the nature reserve was itself quite quiet.
We followed the path which is very accessible clockwise. Passing first the traditional Hayfield and then wet heath. We then took the path that runs through the middle of the reserve passes what’s known as “Willow Carr” before going in an anti clockwise direction round “Snip Bog” and back to the folk in the road. We then retraced our steps to the entrance gate.
There were a couple of Osprey above us and a Kestrel hovering over the wet heath. We also saw both Blue and Coal Tits on the feeder, a Wren on a tree branch, Red Admiral Butterfly and some Mallards on the water way.
