Dubwath Silver Meadow

Just off the A66 opposite the north end of Bassenthwaite Lake is Dubwath Silver Meadow Nature reserve. The perfect place for a wellbeing walk.

Parking on the road at the side of the entrance which was quite buzy and we got the last space at 11.30am, we found that the nature reserve was itself quite quiet.

We followed the path which is very accessible clockwise. Passing first the traditional Hayfield and then wet heath. We then took the path that runs through the middle of the reserve passes what’s known as “Willow Carr” before going in an anti clockwise direction round “Snip Bog” and back to the folk in the road. We then retraced our steps to the entrance gate.

There were a couple of Osprey above us and a Kestrel hovering over the wet heath. We also saw both Blue and Coal Tits on the feeder, a Wren on…

A walk round High Dam

There are several places to park and start this lovely walk. On our first visit, we parked at the Bobbin Mill car park and began with a fascinating tour of the mill before heading out on the trail.

From Beck Meadow, the route begins along a wide, well-defined path that gradually climbs uphill (see photos for an idea of the incline). The steady ascent makes for an easy and enjoyable start, giving you time to take in the surroundings as you make your way towards High Dam.

The path leads you past the first dam before continuing on to High Dam itself. From there, we followed a clockwise circuit around the water,…

Bootle Village Wellbeing Walk

A former 14th- century market town.

We start at the carpark opposite the medieval church of St Michael’s with its font dating back to approximately 1535.

We then proceed to walk down Church Lane with graveyard on the right. Passing the old police house and at Lane house corner of Chapel Lane turning left at the junction with Chapel Lane and walk back towards Main Street, stopping at the lane that goes past the surgery.

Here we walk up the lane between the field with a great view of Black Combe. Stopping where the road inclines towards the farm. Here we turn and walk back to and continuing up Chapel street to Main Street.

As we walk up this part of chapel street we will pass the chapel which dates back to 1780’s
