A walk round High Dam
There are several places to park and start this lovely walk. On our first visit, we parked at the Bobbin Mill car park and began with a fascinating tour of the mill before heading out on the trail.
This time, we chose to start from the donation car park at Beck Meadow, just beyond the Bobbin Mill, although there are also National Trust car parks further up the road if you prefer a higher starting point.
From Beck Meadow, the route begins along a wide, well-defined path that gradually climbs uphill (see photos for an idea of the incline). The steady ascent makes for an easy and enjoyable start, giving you time to take in the surroundings as you make your way towards High Dam.
The path leads you past the first dam before continuing on to High Dam itself. From there, we followed a clockwise circuit around the water, taking in the peaceful surroundings and views from different angles as we went.
After completing the loop, we retraced our steps, heading back down along the same path to return to the car park.
A peaceful and enjoyable walk. It’s a lovely route with gentle climbing, beautiful scenery, and just the right mix of interest along the way.
